Houston, TX, Super Happy Funland!

This is the smiling face that greeted me at Super Happy Funland in Houston, TX. The whole building is covered in murals. I think this was my favorite! This is the back yard. I stayed here two nights. Immediately behind me are three sets of very active railroad tracks, which gave me the opportunity to … Continue reading Houston, TX, Super Happy Funland!

This is Vegas!

This was a great spot! My weekend in Vegas has been a blast! It's no place I ever wanted to go, but now that I'm here, its not too bad. The people who live here are great. Food is affordable, if you go to the grocery store, and the mountains are beautiful. I had a … Continue reading This is Vegas!

Edmonton Noise Fest

I had a great time in Edmonton last week. I can’t imagine what it is like there in January, but at the end of August, Edmonton erupted with culture. The Edmonton Noise Fest brought me to this beautiful city, but simultaneously, the Purple City Music Festival, with more than 50 bands in many venues, over … Continue reading Edmonton Noise Fest

Psychological Operations Now Available at Bandcamp

The audio only version of my new album of Circuit-Bent noise, "Psychological Operations" is now available at http://www.johnhardin.bandcamp.com If you haven't seen the video version, here it is: https://youtu.be/hGwRlduc_ww As strange as it sounds, I think noise is some of the most interesting music happening today. Psychological Operations, a New Album to Watch

https://youtu.be/hGwRlduc_ww For the first time, I've released an album as a video. The Psychological Operations Compilation includes these tracks:Psychological Operations, Drag Sho 4 Kids, Mother Culture, Say, That's Beautiful, Maniac, and Spiders. I usually find the visual aspect of music videos distract from the music they intend to promote, however, I feel that these Circuit-Bent … Continue reading Psychological Operations, a New Album to Watch

Spiders

https://youtu.be/oeKusqWZ4rw This new video features circuit-bent and electroacoustic instruments of the Orchestra of the Unwanted combined with a collage of found video images. I usually find that video images overwhelm and distract from the music they are designed to accompany. However, with this kind of circuit-bent noise, I think the video actually enhances the experience. … Continue reading Spiders

Something Different Interview

Last month I played a variety show in Arcata called "Something Different" hosted by Shea Freelove and Bobby Burns. In addition to performing, I was also interviewed on the show. This video includes the interview and a snippet of the performance. https://youtu.be/yC0RODIilh0

Say, That’s Beautiful!

https://youtu.be/jNUYuDqEmxY This new track of circuit-bent noise with video collage features vocals from an old anti-marijuana propaganda film titled "She Should Have Said No!" The portrayal of marijuana smokers' affinity to music strikes me as both uncannily perceptive and patently ridiculous. Have a toke or two before you watch and see for yourself.

A Circuit-Bent Hit!

I had a lot of fun at the Something Different Show in Arcata last week. I had never performed circuit-bent music as a solo artist for a live audience before. Now, I can't wait to do it again! Circuit-bent music is harder to listen to than it is to play. Fortunately, I had an encouraging … Continue reading A Circuit-Bent Hit!

For Tatiana: Circuit-Bent Improvisation 5943

My friend Sean Powers asked me to bring some of my circuit-bent instruments and play at his puppet/variety show: “Something Different” at the Exit Theater in Arcata on Weds. May 31. I accepted the challenge. I enjoy making circuit-bent and other odd music in my home studio, but performing live is a whole different ballgame. … Continue reading For Tatiana: Circuit-Bent Improvisation 5943
